During Black History Month, ROM Educators invite you to consider and celebrate the connection between identity, place, and land in shaping what is now known as Canada, through stories, artwork, and belongings from Black Canadians, Africans, the Black diaspora, and Afro-Indigenous communities.

This collaborative session will offer the opportunity to examine multiple perspectives, different ways of being and doing, and celebrate Black identities.

Learning goals:

  • Exploring Black identities and communities’ ways of being, knowing and doing
  • Showcasing the diversity of Black Canadians and communities, and their contributions in shaping what is now known as Canada’s identity.
  • Exploring the relationship between identity(ies) and place/land, and how they influence artwork, science, daily life, etc.
  • Exploring Black futurity and its relationship to what is now known as Canada’s identity
