June 2, 9, and 16
Honour Indigenous History Month with series of 1-hour play-along workshops. With the guidance of Indigenous Museum Educators, students will travel via Minecraft to a community on the Pacific Northwest Coast, inspired by and built in consultation with the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm First Nation.
On arrival, students will learn how to approach the community as a respectful guest. Once invited by the Siyam, they will then learn traditional tasks from community Elders and Knowledge Keepers, and take these new skills into the surrounding forests, rivers, and oceans to assist the community prepare for the coming winter. Along the way, lessons will be supported by Indigenous Artistic and Cultural Belongings that currently reside at ROM.
You may choose to participate in any of the three workshops and still receive a full and valuable lesson, but we recommend booking all three in order to receive the full community experience.
Can’t attend live? No problem! In this special YouTube Live Format, you’ll be able to pause and play the lesson to go at the pace that’s right for your students. If you can't attend live, you can still follow along with the recording through the links you’ll receive when you book.
