Climate Change is real. You’ve heard the news stories, you’ve seen the extreme weather events, you’ve wondered, “Is it too late?” This lesson explores the causes, consequences, and solutions to the climate catastrophe that humanity faces through cultures, landscapes, and materials. This live virtual lesson with a Museum Educator or Indigenous Museum Educator encourages students to examine everyday actions, reflect on sustainable practices, and think critically about their effects on climate.

Learning goals:

  • Climate change is real and, though there are natural cycles involved in Earth’s climate, the current rate of climate change is unprecedented and anthropogenic
  • We are and have been seeing the consequences of climate change for some time and some parts of the world are harder hit than others. The harder-hit places tend to be places where the population is less wealthy.
  • There is hope, but we must act. There won’t be one simple solution – it will be a combination of technologies and changes in consumption habits.
