Astronomy is often called the oldest science. Cultures around the world have had and continue to have deep connections with the night sky for various reasons. In this lesson, explore some of those ties, learn how modern astronomy helps us know our planet and its inhabitants better, and marvel at the solar system and what we can observe in the night sky!

SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTMaximum group size is 20 people - students and adults - at one time. For groups larger than 20 people (students and supervisors) please pick a date when the lesson is offered in the a.m. and p.m. sessions, for a maximum of 40 people.

Learning goals:

  • Technology allows us to observe Earth from space to track changes over time, for example climate change; but it also has diminished our connection to the sky, for example light pollution
