Part 1 November 11, Part 2 November 18 and Part 3 November 25, 2024.
Travel back in time to Manito Ahbee Aki, where the Red River meets the Assiniboine, as it existed thousands of years ago. Under the guidance of Indigenous Museum Educators, students will learn from community Knowledge Keepers and build Anishinaabemowin vocabulary as they explore the lands around the petroforms and learn how to be part of the community. Lessons will be supported by real Indigenous Artistic and Cultural Belongings that currently reside at ROM.
These lessons are sequential and must be completed in order. If you want to experience the whole journey, submit a booking for each of these dates.
Part 1 – November 11, 2024: Journey to Manito Ahbee Aki, explore the Petroforms and build your Anishinaabemowin vocabulary.
Part 2 – November 18, 2024: Continuing where we left off in Part 1, we’ll travel to a new community to learn about different clans, and help the community prepare for a bison hunt.
Part 3 – November 25, 2024: Continuing where we left off in Part 2, we’ll make some trades with the local trader, and learn about the Three Sisters so we can begin to set up a community of our own.
