New!

In this hands-on program, students will use cutting-edge 3D scanning technology with the Polycam app to capture and explore museum artifacts and specimens in a whole new way. They’ll transform physical objects into digital models, dive into the world of 3D scanning using photogrammetry, and apply their creativity to modify or redesign their scans. This exciting activity connects history, technology, and design, while encouraging collaboration and critical thinking. It's a fun, interactive experience that brings the past into the digital future!

Learning Goals:

1. Use handheld tablets to capture physical models and render them as digital shapes
2. Introducing 3D scanning as a medium of data collection
3. Recognize the use cases of 3D scanning, involving design improvement, reverse engineering, and artifact and object preservation
4. Introducing integration into CAD software for design and fabrication purposes
5. Investigate the sustainable and ethical concerns of 3D scanning
6. Investigate the creative potential of 3D scanning and interdisciplinary learning
7. Have visitors participate in community-building by contributing to digitization of collections
