Science is more than a subject; it is a way of thinking based on asking questions and finding ways to answer them. This is true of all science, though the process of doing science can vary across cultures. Investigate scientific questioning through collections at ROM and environments through the unique perspectives of the Museum Educator or Indigenous Museum Educator and explore how science knowledge is shaped by asking a diversity of questions and using multiple methods to find answers, and how that knowledge is shared.

Learning goals:

  • Science is a subject and a process. It is an approach to asking and answering questions.
  • In many ways, questions are more important than answers because questions seek, frame, and expose while answers are temporary understandings whose accuracy changes and decays over time, needing to be reevaluated as the world and knowledge itself changes.
  • Questions are the basis of innovation, social change, and new discoveries. Questions are stronger when they are informed by diverse perspectives and multiple viewpoints.
  • Science is ongoing. Answers generate a whole new set of questions.
