This International Museum Day, celebrate with us by exploring a coding challenge in ROM’s first official Minecraft world!

Museum Minecraft: Rocks and Minerals takes students through ROM’s research centre in the fictional world of Rocklandia. On their way to assist ROM scientists with their field research, students encounter obstacles they must overcome with code.

In this special International Museum Day workshop, Minecraft Science Teacher Julie and Minecraft Mentor Sarah will lead students to a broken bridge, and guide students through the code needed to repair it. Through this process, we’ll engage with the cornerstones of computational thinking: decomposition, abstraction, pattern recognition, and algorithm design.  Along the way, we’ll also learn about the difference between rocks and minerals using real objects from the museum’s collections.

Can’t attend live? No problem! In this special YouTube Live Format, you’ll be able to pause and play the lesson to go at the pace that’s right for your students. If you can’t attend live, you can still follow along with the recording through the link you’ll receive when you register.
